Road Runners Homemakers - July Meeting

The Road Runners Homemakers Club met at the Mule Creek Junction coffee shop on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 10:30 am. Eight members were present - Louise Bayne, Linda Cummings, Elaine Francis, Linda Gibbens, Shirlee Lambert, Sena Pearson, Claudia Swanson and Irma Wasserburger. Guests included Sena’s four grandchildren - Sena, Bailey, Cooper and Tucker. President Claudia called the meeting to order with the Homemaker’s pledge. Elaine Francis agreed to serve as Secretary-Pro Tem in Linda Kane’s absence. A motion to table the minutes and treasurer’s report until the September meeting was made by Linda C. and seconded. Motion approved.

Sena shared information with the members about the fair booth that she and Kris Stauffer are co-chairing. Other members helping with ideas and setting it up at the fairgrounds on Monday, August 2nd, at 1 PM will be Linda G., Jo Ann Matney and Shirlee. Claudia led Road Runners Homemakers discussion about fair kitchen. Kitchen rules & information sheets were handed out. Two members and six pies were arranged for council day, Tuesday, August 3rd. Road Runners workday will be Thursday, August 5th. A motion was made by Sena and seconded to serve ham and scalloped potatoes this year as our special. Motion approved. Side dishes reviewed and approved were “colorful” cole slaw and homemade bread. Linda Cummings volunteered to make the bread. Five members attending the meeting will help in the kitchen on Thursday. It was determined that we’ll need approximately 28-30 pies based on figures from the last three years. Sena and Claudia will be contacting additional members about pies and working in the kitchen.

The club picnic will be at Paleo Park, hosted by Kris & Chad Stauffer, on Saturday, August 14th, at 5 PM. A menu was selected and members are asked to bring a salad or dessert. RSVP for picnic by Thursday, August 5th. Club members celebrating summer birthdays and anniversaries were announced. A birthday card from all the Road Runners was signed for Ruth Snedeker’s 88th birthday. Claudia encouraged members to sell or buy raffle tickets for the quilt made by the Homemakers and 4-H Clubs.

The meeting was adjourned and we thanked Judy, manager of the coffee shop, for allowing us to meet there and also for the cookies she made for us. Six members car-pooled to Newcastle for a birthday lunch with Ruth. Next meeting will be at Louise Bayne’s home on Thursday, September 9th, 10:30 AM.
